Day curfew lifted in Thakurganj:

[India News]: Lucknow, Feb 28 : The district administration here lifted day curfew in Thakurganj area today where sectarian clashes had claimed three lives on February 20 last.

Curfew has been relaxed from 0600 hrs to 2000 hrs and the duration might be extended by a couple of hours if the situation remains peaceful, police sources said here.

However, the night-time curfew would still be in place for some more time, sources said.

Meanwhile, police and PAC personnel were still keeping a tight watch on the riot-hit area and suspected anti-social elements.

The three main accused in the incident, held in police custody, were being interrogated.

Curfew was imposed in Thakurganj on February 20 after three persons were killed and about 15 others injured in a violent clash between Shias and Sunnis during the passing of a tazia procession on the 10th day of Moharram. PTI
